POP! Design, Culture, Fashion Exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum 2012

Monday, 29 May 2017

So this is a pretty old exhibition visit. I completely forgot I had pictures for this exhibition because I was so awfully busy with Uni that me blogging anything flew out the window. I had included this research in the early stages of my dissertation preparation, which was useful.

This is the POP! Design, Culture, Fashion Exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum in 2012. This exhibition explores how much of a revolutionary impact music, art and fashion made during one of the most iconic eras of the 50s, 60s and 70s. A new wave of rock 'n' roll and youth culture emerged in the 1950s America, which took the country by storm. There was a combination of popular images, music, art and fashion that made history and changed the way people dressed, as well as pushing the boundaries of commerce, culture and style. The 60s era saw the cool stylings of the Mods, the high baroque of Psychedelia and the kitsch glamour of 70s retro by designers such as Mr Freedom and Miss Mouse.

The Victoria and Albert Museum presents: Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty

Monday, 21 September 2015

The Alexander McQueen Exhibition ended on 2nd August 2015, so it feels like I'm a bit late to the party talking about this! But it was probably the best exhibition I've ever been to.

My friend booked us tickets in advance for the 26th July 2015 to go, as we realised that tickets were seriously selling like hot cakes! We wanted to go on a saturday but worried that we won't be guaranteed a ticket to see it. This exhibition celebrates the best of Alexander McQueen's work.

I was so surprised on how much more there was to see. When we entered the A Gothic Mind and the Romanticism Primitivism rooms, I assumed 'oh well this is all we're getting at this exhibition.' How wrong was I? There were so many rooms and I kept saying 'oh there's more!' I was getting excited. I don't have any words to describe how MAGNIFICENT this exhibition really was. I wanted to take photos of everything but usually V&A exhibitions are prohibited and get this, you're not allowed to even sketch. In the large dark room, it was the only opportunity where I could take some photos on my phone (quality wasn't good).

MY HIGHLIGHTS

This is the Romanticism Primitivism room, I call this the skull and bones room because the walls were entirely made of skull and bones! It was pretty cool and it kind of felt like I was entering a scene from Game of Thrones. As we entered, I could get a sense of the dark atmosphere of being under water and especially the music - it set the mood and tone of this collection perfectly well, but a little scary more so.

The Ballgowns Exhibition at the V&A

Wednesday, 31 July 2013

This is quite old from now! But the V&A had the Ballgowns exhibition that I went to last year. This exhibition highlighted British Glamour since 1950 for 60 years of stylish evening wear. There were beautiful embellished details, styles and exquisite silhouettes. There were gowns on display by Alexander McQueen, Bellville Sassoon, Roland Mouret and Zandra Rhodes. As well as young labels such as Holly Fulton, Erdem, Felicity Brown, Jonathan Saunders, Gareth Pugh and Christopher Kane. There was an absolutely stunning dress by Alexander McQueen, in which model Daphne Guinness wore to the Met Ball.

This photo went a bit blurry; was trying to take a pic as quickly as possible before getting caught again. I love the Walkers crisps packet bag!

I really want to see that David Bowie exhibition next. Its extremely popular! Best selling exhibition at the V&A so far.

The Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts 2012

Saturday, 27 July 2013

Note to Self: I am going to start blogging more often.

There were a few exhibitions I visited during the summer last year that I forgotten to blog about (was incredibly busy). Can't believe its been a whole year since I went to a exhibition! So this is quite old, one of them I visited was the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts 2012. I went to see whether it had any relevance to my dissertation research...it obviously didn't help much as I was in the early stages of Dissertation research, but it was really interesting to see all the inspiring art paintings, the sculptural building pieces and some fashion garment pieces etc. There were quite a few pieces that had a very interesting laminating effects on them too! Here are some of the pictures I took:

Illuminating lights on this London Olympics piece.

I thought this was a very interesting drawing of typography design.

A cute bird print!

Bold typography design prints.

I think this was my favourite print in the collection. It has such a great attention to detail, such a beautiful drawing.

The GFW Exhibition Stand 2013

Thursday, 6 June 2013

Hello.
Been so long since my last post! 4 months since I last posted. Been super busy with third year.
Wednesday was the last day of GFW! I had to attend to the exhibition to see the portfolios and stands because I have been unable to turn up since Monday (trying to fiercely finish final collection).
Not much to say apart from how everything looked amazing! I have to say the UCA stand always looks well laid out and really creative. Here are some selective photos I took:

Ah, this is my portfolio at the Ravensbourne stand! Our portfolio cases are neon yellow, we're going colourful this year! Guess we stand out then, huh?

Love the neon orange portfolios! These were for womenswear. Textiles got yellow!

One of my portfolio pages.

My GFW stamp for entry.

The stand by Nottingham Trent. I always love their stands and of course their knitwear.

Ravensbourne went out with a bang at GFW! - Will be writing it up in the next post ;)
