London Fashion Week: Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Part I

Thursday, 23 February 2012

Since 24th January I've been interning at Alice Lee Ltd, a knitwear designer and helping out with their final collection. Their fashion show was at Vauxhall Fashion Scout in Covent Garden's Freemason's Hall. I worked for a few hours in the exhibition before going to their show - it was a really great one :). After the show I got the chance to take some pictures of fashion designer's AW 2012/13 collections.

Nova Chiu is one of the winners the 'Ones to Watch' Award. She just graduated from London College of Fashion. Her collection for AW 12/13 uses a variety of textures and embroidery techniques. I really like her work, it's full of exciting vibrant colours!

This is Phoebe English's collection for AW 2012/13 is the Merit Award Winner for Vauxhall Fashion Scout. She graduated from Central Saint Martins last year with a MA degree.

Ekaterina Kukhareva's intricate knitwear collection was one of my favourites in the exhibition. I got to have a little chat with her and she said that snakeskin her inspiration, which she translated the imagery to knitwear. Her work was just beautiful, very inspiring also!

Anne Sofie Madsen's AW 2012/13 collection was another one of my favourites. She is a winner of the 'Ones to Watch' Award. Her design and concept was just stunning, I loved the details of the beading, the jewellery and the mixture of fabric manipulation. Madsen took inspiration from Sedna - the half skeleton and half human Inuit goddess of the underworld.

These leggings are so amazing.

Beautiful neck pieces.

Morana Kranjec's work was the first thing that captured my attention at the exhibition when I walked in. Her designs were influenced by Japanese clothing and her work was made from paper, which had a fine art concept. Her contact cards were amazing - they were created in a origami technique, which makes you want to keep folding to get to one image to another.

Myrza De Muynck is a Dutch designer, who just graduated from Central Saint Martins and is also one of the winners of the 'Ones to Watch' Award. She combines hand painted prints and hand embroidery within her designs, it is described as 'casual chic,' playing with the theme of tomboyish look with a sportswear element.

This is Lulu Liu's collection for AW 12/13. I especially loved this dress, I think the materials used to created the silhouette of the ruffles are gorgeous. Definitely an eye-catching dress and coat as a whole.

This is some of Ruth Green's pieces from her AW 12/13 collection. I looking at her garments when she approached me, and spoke to her a little bit about her collection as I'm doing knitwear too. I found out she said she studied from Ravensbourne College as well for her BA! The same Uni I'm at :) I really like the colour blocking textures of her collection. It was her first show which I would imagine was a exciting time for her :)

This is Eleanor Bolton's jewellery designs. She is a recent graduate from the Royal College of Art. She specialises in innovative materials and manipulating techniques to create something unexpected, exploring the boundaries of form and function.

This is Charlotte Simpson's collection. She was awarded the Zandra Rhodes Textile Award at Graduate Fashion Week and went on to become a freelance print designer before completing her masters at London College of Fashion. She has been shortlisted Womenswear of the Year Award at the LCF Victoria and Albert show.

This is Jennifer Morris' collection. Originally from Australia, she studied in the UK and gained a degree in Fashion from the Edinburg School of Art. She returned to the UK after working in Australia for a production fashion company and gained an MA at London College of Fashion. She has been named the 'Ones to Watch' by Harpers Bazaar and the Look of the Week by Grazia Daily.

This is pieces from Eleanor Amoroso's AW 12/13 collection. I was really intrigued by her designs. Her work is handmade and inspired by dramatic contemporary design, she uses macrame to create innovative knitted techniques. Her designs has been featured on Volt magazine with model Alice Dellal.

I'm looking forward to next season! Publishing Alice Lee's collections in the next post :)

Snowing in London!

Sunday, 12 February 2012

It's February now and it was snowing in London! It was like Christmas all over again. I took some photographs whilst on my way to work, I love bits of snow scattered around places. I think it creates lovely textures.
