Trend: Embroidery handcrafts

Saturday, 9 June 2012

For the past two months, we’ve been working on a ‘Trends Cycle’ project in collaboration with the British retailer Hobbs London. This project is about a Zeitgeist, which refers to the spirit of time, the taste and outlook characteristics of a period or generation. Therefore in this group project, we’ve had to think about how trends influence the evolution of design and our aim is to acknowledge how long the design process takes from personal research to a realization.
Now that the project is coming to an end, I think it has been quite a tough project to undertake because with live commercial projects, you need to constantly look at trends and keep it in the style of the company your designing for. It’s also about the concept of how you think something suddenly becomes a trend, which is why trends scouting is important when finding out what’s out there. But I think I have learnt a lot in terms of working together as a group because I'm so used to working independently, and it's great to gather everyone else's ideas together.

We discovered four main trends. One of which is for the N.W.3 range, this trend inspired by embroidery as a handcraft and this is called ‘Twisted Tapestry.’ These images are inspiration of embroidery techniques.

This bicycle embroidery looks so cool! Instantly reminds me of Queen's song 'I want to ride my bicycle.'

Oh Snap indeed.
